How to Enroll Your Child in Boy Scouts

1. Locate a Boy Scouts group near you through the organization’s Web site or by contacting the Boy Scouts of America.


2. Select the right program.

The Boy Scouts of America offers three programs for boys of various ages. Explorers is the program for boys and girls (yes, girls, too) ages 14 through 20, who have completed the eighth grade.

The Boy Scouts is for boys (and only boys) between 11 and 17 who have completed the fifth grade and earned the Arrow of Light. Second-grade through fifth-grade boys between the ages of 8 and 10 can join a Cub Scout pack.


3. Submit a completed application and health history, along with a modest fee (less than $10).


4. Have your son demonstrate the Scout salute, sign and handshake.


5. Have him repeat the Pledge of Allegiance.


6. Make sure he understands and agrees to live by the Scout Oath, the Scout Law, the Scout Motto, the Scout Slogan and the Outdoor Code.


7. Congratulations! Your son is a member of the Boy Scouts of America.
